Norman May is considered the voice of the Olympics for many Australians. He is responsible for the most memorable stretch of sports commentary in Australian Olympic history, beginning in Tokyo in 1964. It is May’s voice behind the call “Gold, gold, gold”, made famous following his commentary of the 4x100 metres men's swim team final at the 1980 Moscow Olympics when Australia won gold.

May has compiled a series of 55 audio files featuring Australian gold medal winners in the summer Olympic Games from Athens 1896 through to Athens 2004. The series has been called Norman May’s Golden Nuggets.
