To help you get started the Australian Olympic Committee has developed an Olympic Day resource.
The resource is designed to teach the a.s.p.i.r.e values to young Australians, concluding in the staging of an intra-school or inter-school sporting and cultural event – Olympic Day.
Last year more than 500 schools across Australia participated, using double plugger thongs for discus, a ping pong for shot put, a straw for javelin and using a balloon to play volleyball.
“We want students to know we don’t have to be terrific at sport to enjoy ourselves. It’s about participation, building a team effort and having a good time." Catharina Patterson, Elliot Heads State School, QLD
“This was a great opportunity for our students to realise that anyone can participate in the Olympic Games – we all have dreams and we are inspired by our own dreams.” Nicole Monk, Madang Avenue Public, NSW
“In 2007 our students participated in an Olympic biscuit relay. They had to run 100 metres, decorate a biscuit with icing and then use M&Ms to make the Olympic Rings.” Sarah Gover, WA
