David's Story

Triple Olympian, David Morris made history at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games when he became Australia’s first male to win an Olympic aerials medal. Having made the four-man super final, Morris landed his quad twisting somersault to score 110.41 and take home the silver medal behind Anton Kushnir from Belarus.

After taking a year off after Sochi, Morris decided to go for his third Games at PyeongChang 2018. He spent the water season in between the 2017 and 2018 Northern Hemisphere winter season training three flips and five twists into the water, hoping to have the complex routine ready for 2018.

At the 2018 Games, Morris has finished 10th in the men’s aerials final and the 33-year-old narrowly missed out on the progressing to the second round. Morris scored 111.95 for his back full – double full – full, putting him in tenth place, with only the top nine progressing to Final 2.

Morris started out as a gymnast before being introduced to the sport by Australian Aerials World Champion Kirstie Marshall. He competed in his first international competition in 2007 and made his Olympic debut three years later at Vancouver where he finished 13th.

After a disappointing start to the 2016/17 World Cup circuit David Morris finished the season on a high. Morris claimed his first podium finish of the year at the 2017 World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain, when he claimed bronze behind American Jonathon Lillis and China's Qi Guangpu. In his five World Cup appearances in the 2017/18 season, Morris secured his best results in Secret Garden, China, where he finished 9th and 11th. He just missed the final 1 in events in Lake Placid and Deer Valley, claiming 13th and 14th when needing 12th or better to progress.
