DIVING: Olympic silver medallist Brittany Broben heads an eight-strong diving squad named today for the FINA World Championships in Barcelona next month.
Fellow Olympians Anabelle Smith and Jaele Patrick are also in the squad, while Grant Nel in the 3-metre springboard is the only men's competitor to be selected.
Synchro divers Lara Tarvit and Emily Boyd, in the platform, and Maddison Keeney and Sherilyse Gowlett in the springboard, have also been selected.
Tarvit, Boyd and Keeney all competed at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney. Their selection in the World Championship Team marks their entry into an exciting new phase of their diving careers.
Under the new Australian Sports Commission Winning Edge formula divers had to meet tough new conditions at last weekend's selection trials to gain selection.
Broben will compete in her favoured 10-metre platform event after a strong showing last weekend, while Smith shook off a hand injury to post her three best-ever scores in the 3-metre springboard.
Nel also returned a personal best score in his platform event.
Perth teenager Maddison Keeney was set for selection in the one-metre springboard, before slipping and failing her final dive on the weekend.
While she's been selected for the synchro event, selectors will pick a competitor from the Barcelona squad to compete in the non-Olympic 1-metre springboard event at the World Championships.
