Mackay teenager Ami Wallace has produced the best performance of the OWI/AIS skeleton team at the second America's Cup race of the season, finishing in 17th place overall, but sliding to 12th place in the first run of the two run competition. Wallace, a week shy of her 19th birthday, and with only 20-odd journeys down a skeleton course under her belt, demonstrated once again that she has the sprint speed to make an impact in world skeleton.

She registered the second fastest start time in the opening run down the Calgary Olympic course and third fastest on the second run. In yesterday's season-opening event she posted first and second fastest start times.

Fellow skeleton rookie Lucy Chaffer from Perth, the best of the Australians yesterday, finished two places behind Wallace in 19th place, with fellow Sandgroper Renee McCabe one hundredth of a second further back in 20th position.

The event was won by Russian slider Ekaterina Mironova in a time of 2 minutes 00.23, with Jessica Parker of the US in second place, almost one second behind, reversing the results from yesterday's opening event.

Of the other Australians, Lisa Wright placed 23rd, Chelsea Frost 25th and Teniele richards 26th.

The six-woman team will now be cut to four for the remaining events of the America's Cup season, with the next event taking place in Lake Placid, New Yrok, from November 27 to December 3.

Torino Olympian Michelle Steele and her World Cup team-mate Emma Lincoln-Smith will start their season in Calgary on November 27.
