At the age of five Katie Gunn joined the Gosford Little Athletics Club on the Central Coast, NSW as all her siblings had done. Katie started out competing in sprints, hurdles and jumps, but between the ages of 13 and 14 she dramatically improved her long jump, jumping 5.96m by the age of 15.
After regularly recording personal bests of in the 6m range, Katie won the national junior title in 2022 by jumping 6.20m, scoring her selection for the U20 World Championships.
