Marissa is a proud Ngarrindjeri woman, who was raised on Wadawurrung Country in Victoria, and spent time playing Australian rules football before switching to boxing.
At the 2023 Australian Elite Boxing Championships in August she became an Australian champion for the third time and was the first woman to win the Arthur Tunstall Trophy, which is given to the best boxer at the tournament.
She is mentored by Olympic beach volleyball champion Kerri Pottharst and is a Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarship holder.
