Korfoi Biu was a late addition Australia's 2023 Pacific Games and made the most of the opportunity, winning gold in the women's +78kg class.
She has continued a strong Pacific lineage with her gold medal performance - with a grandmother from Papua New Guinea, dad from Fiji, and grandfather and uncle champion wrestlers and judokas for Nauru.
“My family is so excited, it feels so great to win the gold medal,” Korfoi said. “I waited all day to fight, it was a big day.
“My grandpa and uncle helped bring judo to Nauru decades ago, my uncle represented Nauru at the South Pacific Games and my grandfather was an undefeated traditional wrestler. I’ve been trying to follow in their footsteps.”
