Ryley first had an interest in Olympic sports before settling on judo. During the London 2012 Olympics, her first memory of the Olympic Games, her school put on a ‘mini Olympics’ event where each student competed in Olympic activities and that’s where she set a goal of going to the Olympics one day. After starting judo and winning fights, she knew she wanted to go all the way into judo.
Two of her career highlights come from 2023, including second place at the Macau Junior Asian Open and seventh place at the Bosnia Junior European Cup. Her 2019 national title was her first big achievement.
Ryley’s coaches, Maria Pekli and Daniel Kelly, are her sporting heroes. Between them they have been to nine Olympic Games for Australia and Maria won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
