Liam Sweeney is a Brisbane boy who is a five-time national champion and a Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarship holder. He was born in Ireland, moved to Queensland as an eight-year-old and has aspirations to represent Australia at the Olympic Games.
At the 2023 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan Liam defeated Cedric Ndzouli (CAN) in the men's -80kg round of 64 and Apostolos Telikostoglou (GRE) in the round of 32 before being eliminated by Faysal Sawadogo (BUR) in the round of 16.
