Mathew made his Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 where he competed in the men's 109kg event. At the Games, Matthew achieved a snatch lift of 158kg, followed by a clean & jerk of 180kg earning him an overall placing of 12th overall in his debut Games.
Most recently, Matthew place 2nd at the 2023 Australian Weightlifting Federation's Senior Championships with a total weight of 333kg. He currently holds the Australian records in the 109kg category for snatch with 167kg in 2021 and total with 356kg in 2020.
