Weightlifting runs in the family for Oliver Saxton, whose father Andrew Saxton is a three-time Commonwealth Games medallist and 1988 Olympian. Dreaming of following in his father's footsteps, Oliver first starting weightlifting at eight years old.
At 17, Oliver made his international debut at the combined 2019 Pacific/Oceania/Commonwealth Championships where he won a silver and bronze medal. More recently, Oliver placed 17th at the 2022 Junior World Championships and later that year won the 2022 Oceania Junior Championships.
In 2023, Oliver was awarded a tier three Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship.
