In the men's Luge, Alex Ferlazzo has laid down a time of 54.013 seconds in his opening run at Milano Cortina 2026. 

Exiting the fourth corner a little high, Ferlazzo sits in 20th place after the first of four runs, 1.089 seconds behind the race leader. 

German Max Langenhan set the pace with a track record 52.924 seconds in his opening run. 

Athletes return to the track for their second run at 4:30am AEDT. Runs three and four take place tomorrow.

The Ferlazzo's in Cortina

Townsville luger Alex Ferlazzo is about to get his fourth Games underway with his family in the stands in Cortina. 

Ferlazzo will be 15th down the luge track out of 25 racers. He gets two runs with the event kicking off at 3:00 AEDT.

Rosie breaks through for top 50 result

In a women's skiathlon raced at breakneck speed, Rosie Fordham has fought all the way to the completion of the hour-long event, finishing in 49th position.

Fordham was in 56th at the transition into skate, and made her way through the field in her preferred technique for a top 50 finish.

Maddie Hooker, Ellen Soehol Lie (pictured) and Phoebe Cridland were lapped by the frontrunners during the back half of the race.

Sweden finished one-two in the opening cross country event at Milano Cortina 2026 with Frida Karlsson carrying the national flag over the line to win gold ahead of compatriot Ebba Anderson. Norway's Heidi Weng in third.

Tomorrow it is the men's turn with the 30km skiathlon commencing at 10:30pm AEDT with Seve de Campo and Hugo Hinckfuss on the start line for Australia.

With four-and-a-half of six laps completed in the women's skiathlon, Rosie Fordham is knocking on the door of a top 50 result.

The 23-year-old sits in 51st position at the 15.1km mark.

The other three Australians in the field have fallen a lap behind the leaders.

The women's skiathlon has hit the halfway mark with competitors completing 10km of cross country skiing in the classic technique.

The 70-strong field have now gone through the transition to change skis and commence the final 10km in the freestyle (skate) technique.

All four Australians are in the same part of the field, placed between 56th and 60th as they move into the back half of the race.
