The Queensland Olympic Council presented the 2003 Pierre de Coubertin Awards recently in the picturesque Long Room of Customs House overlooking the Brisbane River.
This year 128 students of the 200 state wide recipients attended the presentation and were presented their certificates by the Minister for Education Hon Anna Bligh MP and Sydney 2000 Olympic Diving Bronze Medallist Robert Newbery.
Channel Seven’s Victoria Carthew did an excellent job as Master of Ceremonies, entertaining the students and parents with her quick wit and sporting knowledge. Guests were treated to a wonderful display of musical talent by the Queensland MOST (Musically Outstanding Students) String Quartet, while Joshua McFadzen of Channel College (Gladstone) recited his inspiring poem “Champions”.
