Forty students have been honoured with a Pierre de Coubertin Award for 2005. This is the 8th year that the Awards have been conducted in Tasmania.
The Pierre de Coubertin Awards are named after the founder of the modern Olympic Games. The Awards recognise senior secondary students in years 9, 10,11 & 12, who demonstrate attributes consistent with the fundamental aims of the Olympic Movement, such as mutual respect, friendship, fair play, understanding of others, a striving for excellence and a sense of pride in the achievements of their fellow man.
All secondary schools in Tasmania were invited to nominate one senior student for the Award. Forty schools participated in the 2005 Awards program.
The Awards were made possible by a Grant from the Tasmanian Government, Sport & Recreation Tasmania and support from the Australian Olympic Committee and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
