The 2005 Pierre de Coubertin Awards program was launched at Wavell State High School on Wednesday 16th March by Olympic Silver and Bronze Medallist Brooke Wilkins and State Member for Algester Karen Struthers MP, who represented Education Minister Anna Bligh MP.
Thank you to Ted Brennan and School Captains Beth Sewell and Troy Schulz for their assistance in the organisation of the launch and hosting such a successful day.
In addition, three regional launches were held throughout regional Queensland in Roma, Rockhampton and Smithfield.
On Monday 21st March, Ian Guiver (Executive Director, QOC) and Olympian Julie McDonald travelled out to Roma to launch the Awards that were hosted by Roma Middle School who are a great supporter of the awards having had recipients for the past nine years.
Two launches were held on Tuesday 22nd March in Rockhampton and Smithfield. Ian Guiver joined local Olympian Kenrick Tucker in Rockhampton where North Rockhampton State High School hosted a successful launch. Kim Cooper (Chair, QOC Education Commission joined local Cairns Olympian and 2004 Olympic Silver Medallist Brett Roneberg at Smithfield State High School to conduct the final launch.
