The funds raised will be used to a send Olympians throughout Queensland as role models to educate children and parents about healthy eating and physical activity. The program specifically targets childhood obesity.

31 Australian Sporting Legends played on the day, including Olympic Gold Medallists – Dean Lukin, Susie O’Neill, Duncan Armstrong, Dawn Fraser, Jon Sieben, Michael Wenden, Neil Brooks, Herb Elliott and Glynis Nunn-Cearns.

Also in attendance were Wallabies – Tim Horan, Chris “Buddha” Handy, Andrew Slack and Greg Cornelson; AFL stars – Michael Voss, Alastair Lynch, Leigh Matthews and Malcolm Blight; Rugby League greats - Mal Meninga, Gordon Tallis, Gene Miles and Norm Provan; Australian Netball Captains – Vicki Wilson and Liz Ellis; Melbourne Cup winning jockeys - Glen Boss and Mick Dittman; Australian Test Cricketers - Mark Taylor, Ian Healy and Greg Ritchie; and Tennis Champions - Pat Rafter and Ken Rosewall.

The day teed off with a fun run for school children to launch the Queensland Olympic Councils Childhood Obesity Program followed by a team stableford event, on course catering by Pier Nine and Il Centro Restaurants concluding with dinner at Hope Island Resort.

Guest speaker, Tony Mowbray, Australia’s fastest around the world solo yachtsman, kept the participants entertained with some fascinating stories of his experience in the fateful 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht race.

The major prize draw at this year’s event was four double return business class tickets Brisbane to Auckland flying Qantas Airways to attend the 2005 Bledisloe Cup Rugby Match Australia v New Zealand on 3rd September 2005, eight complimentary tickets to the game, two nights complimentary accommodation in Auckland for Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd September 2005, complimentary transfers and pre and post hospitality (valued at approximately $30,000).

Greenbank RSL, outstanding supporters of the Queensland Olympic fundraising campaign, were the lucky winners of this great prize. However, through the generosity of General Manager John Limbrick, the prize was donated back to the QOC for auction on the night. Pat Rafter was the successful bidder.

Our thanks to Qantas, and in particular Terry Simpson and Lisa Bennetts, for their continued support in making this event so spectacular. We also extend our gratitude to Andy and Marcia Georges at Il Centro and Matthew Hill-Smith at Pier Nine Restaurants for their superb contribution by way of exceptional on course catering and donating the major golf prizes, to Alan Meacock and his outstanding Hope Island Resort staff for providing a great venue, Total Sports Travel for assisting in providing the ground content of the Qantas Package, CUB for their continued support and David and Erica Fordham of Fordham Sports Enterprises for their wonderful organisational skills.
