adidas unveils Rio 2016 Australian Olympic Uniforms
The official adidas uniforms to be worn by the 2016 Australian Olympic Team were unveiled in Sydney with the help of selected athletes and Rio hopefuls.

TEAM: adidas and the Australian Olympic Committee were today joined by Australian Olympic athletes and Rio hopefuls including Sally Pearson, Kyle Chalmers, Madison Wilson, Morgan Mitchell, Brooke Stratton, Holly Lincoln-Smith, Stephanie Talbot and Adam Gibson to unveil the official adidas uniforms to be worn by the Australian Olympic team during the 2016 Games.

Merging the iconic Australian green and gold colours with adidas’ innovative technologies, which have been enhanced and adapted for the 2016 Games, the adidas uniforms will ensure that the Australian team are given the perfect platform to succeed.

The official uniform process began over 18 months ago and comprises more than 90,000 items of apparel and footwear, ranging in sizes from 4 Extra Small to 4 Extra Large. The adidas Olympic Distribution Centre in Alexandria, NSW, will house all 90,000 garments for distribution to over 800 Australian athletes and officials.

Australian athletes will be cooler than ever before with the inclusion of the revolutionary adidas CLIMACHILL technology, which will work to counteract the hot and humid conditions athletes are set to face in Rio.

When the core body temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius, efficiencies decrease and athletes cannot perform at their peak capacity. adidas CLIMACHILL apparel uses industry-leading technology to keep athletes body temperature at an optimum level which will help them perform at their best, even in the hot and humid conditions of Rio.

adidas Futures Team has worked closely with leading athletes and conducted extensive testing within the climate chamber of adidas’ research labs, to ensure the Australian Olympic Uniforms are a collection of the most advanced cooling product range yet; offering an evolution of previous CLIMACHILL technologies to work with the body to maintain the optimal body temperature:

-       Fabric weight and thickness that differs between sports to enhance performance functionality depending on the athletes needs

-       A uniquely engineered design profile includes industry-leading 3D aluminium-cooling spheres strategically located on the back and neck to correspond with the warmest areas of the body; providing an instant cooling sensation on contact

-       Mesh-like micro fibres transport excess moisture away from your skin

-       Revolutionary SubZero flat yarns contain titanium to maximise surface contact with the skin, to transfer heat away from the body.

The Rio 2016 Games will also see adidas’ revolutionary BOOST technology feature in an Olympic Games for the first time. Designed and manufactured for constant energy return, adidas BOOST footwear will be used in six disciplines; Marathon, Track and Field, Basketball, Tennis, Handball and Volleyball.

Chef de Mission for the Australian Olympic Team, Kitty Chiller, said "The AOC and adidas have enjoyed a great association over the years. Our athletes will not only look the part in Rio, but will feel confident knowing that they are wearing uniforms created using industry leading technology."

Olympic gold medallist, Sally Pearson, was impressed by the uniforms unveiled at the launch.

"The Olympics is every athletes dream, and to be able to wear the latest and most revolutionary technology is very exciting. Our sport is so competitive and the field so close that to have the confidence that my uniform has been developed using state of the art technology gives me the edge I need over my competitors."
