The AOC has released details relating to elections to be held in 2022 for the office bearers and members of the AOC Executive, including the role of President, at the Annual General Meeting 30 April.

At the meeting to be held on April 30th next year, member sports will elect a new President with John Coates stepping down, two Vice-Presidents as well as seven members of the Executive.

The only Executive position not up for election is the Chief Executive Officer as well as the Chair and Deputy Chair of the AOC Athletes’ Commission.

Further, John Coates as an IOC Member in Australia, remains a member of the Executive in accordance with the IOC Charter and AOC Constitution.

AOC Chief Executive Officer Matt Carroll says member sports will cast their votes at the Annual General Meeting for those nominated by National Federations and state bodies (President and Vice Presidents only).

“This week I have written to our members advising them of the process, and as part of the AOC’s culture, nominations and governance review, provided position descriptions for the three roles, which have been signed off by the AOC Executive.

“The purpose in drafting the position descriptions is to ensure candidates, and those nominating and voting, are fully apprised of the roles and responsibilities of the positions and the expectations of the stakeholders both domestically and internationally.

“While there is no remuneration for the roles of Vice President or Executive Members, the role of President does receive remuneration that reflects its responsibilities and time commitment and the transition of the role over the past five years in relation to that of the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Leadership Team, as part of succession preparations overseen by the Executive.

The position of AOC President for the next term of office will also entitle the President to be appointed to the Board of the OCOG, along with the Chief Executive Officer, IOC Member resident in Australia and an athlete elected by the athletes who competed at the recent edition of the Olympic Games.

The elected candidates will hold office from April 30th, 2022 until the AGM in the year following the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, Paris 2024 when fresh elections will take place.

The Position Descriptions are available via the links below.
