The AOC has expressed its sincere condolences following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II overnight.
AOC President Ian Chesterman said Her Majesty’s long and warm association with Australia and her passion for sport, among many other attributes, earned her enormous respect among Australians.
“I can only add to what so many have observed. Queen Elizabeth II was a dignified and enduring presence in our lives for so many decades. She possessed a keen appreciation of sport and sports people, including many of our champion Australian athletes.
“On behalf of the Australian Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement in Australia, I convey our deepest sympathies to all members of the Royal family, including Olympian and IOC Member HRH the Princess Royal and Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall, also an Olympian”, Mr Chesterman concluded.
