The Australian Olympic Committee today paid tribute to Alison Creagh AM CSC for her outstanding contribution to Paralympic sport, following her resignation as President of Paralympics Australia.

Ms Creagh announced her resignation from the role earlier today, with Paralympics Australia Vice President Grant Mizens OAM PLY elected as the organisation’s new President.

Australian Olympic Committee President Ian Chesterman paid tribute to Alison’s remarkable contribution to Paralympic sport.

“Alison has been a fierce advocate for the Australian Paralympic movement and a champion of inclusion, putting athletes at the centre of the organisation,” Mr Chesterman said.

“Under Alison’s leadership, Paralympics Australia has campaigned for and received greater levels of funding from Federal and State governments, bolstering the movement’s ability to make a positive impact in the lives of athletes and the community at large.

“She also worked to streamline the categorisation processes of the sport for the betterment of athletes.

“Alison, along with Paralympics Australia CEO Cam Murray, played a key role in strengthening the relationship between Paralympics Australia and the AOC at every level of our respective organisations.

“Our great sporting bond and co-operation has not only greatly benefited our organisations, but it will be one of her greatest legacies as a leader.

“Alison’s dedication and strategic insight have been invaluable, and the AOC commends her for her outstanding contributions to Australian sport,” he said.

The AOC also congratulated incoming President Grant Mizens OAM PLY on his appointment.  Grant has competed in wheelchair basketball at three Paralympic Games including 2004 where he won a silver medal in Athens, 2008 where the rollers won gold in Beijing, and in 2012 he took home another silver from London.

“A distinguished three-time Paralympic medallist and having served in a coaching role at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Grant brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role,” Mr Chesterman said.

“His transition from elite athlete to board member and now President, underscores his unwavering commitment to advancing the Paralympic movement in Australia.

“On behalf of Australia’s Olympic community, I congratulate him on becoming the first Paralympian to lead the organisations in 32 years, and warmly welcome him to the role,” he said.
