Australia's Olympic athletes will be banned from using prescription sedatives, such as Stilnox, during the London Games starting later this month.
The decision follows revelations by Grant Hackett, that he was heavily reliant on sleeping pills toward the end of his swimming career.
Hackett claims the drug was used to help swimmers have a good night's rest while competing under hectic schedules.
Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) president John Coates asked AOC secretary general Craig Phillips to review the medical manual following the claims.
News Ltd says the AOC has since changed its policy on sedatives such as Stilnox, Mogadon and Rohypnol.
The revised medical manual includes a new section dealing with "sleep and relaxation strategies", and officials will be able to search rooms of athletes if they're suspected of using the prescription medication.
