ARTISTIC SWIMMING: A fresh Australian team is set to take to the pool for the technical routine on Friday night.
The Australian Artistic Swimming team will bring the rhythm tonight at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre in their first of two routines.
The Aussies will transport the streets of Tokyo, with all their hustle and bustle, into the pool as they take on the best of the world with their Technical Routine set to high intensity techno beats.
But the Australians will face tough competition, namely from the Russian Olympic Committee who have won the event at every Olympic Games since Sydney 2000.
Nevertheless, our Artistic Swimmers will give it their all in the 10-team competition.

Australia’s eight-person team, which is full of youth and optimism, is led by two captains both in their second Olympic Games. Amie Thompson and Emily Rogers who competed together in the duet to a 20th place finish will lead the Aussies in the pool.
Joining Thompson and Rogers are six Olympic debutants who are eager and raring to go. Carolyn Buckle, Hannah Burkhill, Kiera Gazzard, Alessandra Ho, Kirsten Kinash, and Rachel Presser round out the team for the green and gold.
Following their Friday technical performance, the Australians will be back in the water for their free routine on Saturday night which will explore the power struggle between the opposing elements of fire and water set to music inspired by the hit show Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The combined score across the two routines, technical and free, will determine the overall placings in the field.
Action gets underway at 8:30pm AEST with the Australians performing fifth in the line-up.
