BMX: Some of Australia’s best BMX riders will hit the track in Utah this weekend for the Great Salt Lake Nationals with Sam Willoughby, Caroline Buchanan, Anthony Dean and Lauren Reynolds all confirmed starters.
The three-day event at Rad Canyon BMX in South Jordan, just outside of Salt Lake City, will feature some of the world’s best riders as preparations continue for next month’s UCI BMX World Championships in Zolder, Belgium.
Joining reigning elite world champion Willoughby and Dean in a stellar men’s field will be two-time Olympic champion Maris Strombergs, US stars Connor Fields and Nic Long, Frenchman Joris Daudet and Dutchman Twan van Gendt to name but a few.
The women’s field, headlined by Australian world number one Buchanan and 2015 National Series champion Reynolds, will include US Olympians Alise Post and Brooke Crain and rising American star Felicia Stancil.
Dean, the Adelaide born and bred San Diego based rider who finished last season in fourth on the UCI rankings, said the action on track in Rad Canyon would be hot.
“This weekend is another part of our preparation for the world championships in July,” Dean said.
“Individually these events aren’t important to the world championships but this weekend forms part of three race meets that will act as the perfect preparation for Zolder.
“For me, my preparation’s been going great, I have no injuries and I’m feeling good. I can’t wait to race.”
