WATER POLO: The Aussie Stingers mounted an impressive second half comeback to defeat European powerhouse the Netherlands 15-12, in their second preliminary match of the Tokyo Olympics.
The Netherlands led for the majority of the first half, before the Aussie Stingers Olympic experience came to the fore, with crucial goals from Hannah Buckling, Rowie Webster, Bron Knox and Zoe Arancini.
A combination of a strong defensive presence, and attacking pressure in converting vital goals saw the Aussie Stingers take an eventual three goal win.
While experience reigned supreme, the strong performance from the rookies also played a major role with a trifecta from debutant Abby Andrews and first outing at the Olympics for goalkeeper Gabriella Palm.

Fellow debutant Tilly Kearns, said the gruelling nature of that game afforded her a lot of learnings she can use as the Games progress.
"I think that's a huge learning curve for me that match, and it's awesome (in) my second Olympic game to come away with a win, and a win like that, where we were down by so many goals,” said Kearns.
"Just seeing the older girls step up and play with composure, it's a huge learning curve for me. It makes me so excited to see what this team can do for the rest of the Games.
"It just shows what this team can do. As a team we play with a lot of heart and we play for each other and, you know, it's amazing being here with these girls who have so much experience.

The Aussie Stingers will head into their 'bye' round undefeated, and will resume their quest for Olympic glory on Friday 30 July against Spain at 8.50pm AEST.
