The Australian men's and women's volleyball teams' Tokyo 2020 dreams came to an end, missing out on their last chance for Olympic qualification at their respective Asian Qualification Tournaments.
With only the overall winner at the men's tournament in China and the women's tournament in Thailand earning a spot at Tokyo 2020, both men's and women's team just missed the semi-finals finishing third in their pool.
Despite winning two of three pool games, the men's team finish tied with both Qatar and Korea on two wins apiece, with Korea and Qatar progressing on tie-breaker.
The men started the tournament strongly, beating Korea 3-2 in their first match up before going down to Qatar 3-0. Despite a 3-1 victory over India in their final pool match, the Koreans' five-set win over Qatar in the final pool match ended the Aussie hopes.
Qatar, Korea, China and Iran have made it through to the semi-finals with the winning team at the end of the tournament qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
After their last Olympic appearance being two decades ago at Sydney 2000, the Australian women's volleyball team were gunning to make their long-awaited return to the Olympic stage.
Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, with the Aussie women finishing third in their pool after a 3-0 loss to hosts, Thailand and 3-0 loss to Chinese Taipei.
