Aussies bow out of badminton Worlds

The Aussies fought valiantly at the 2011 World Badminton Championships in London but were knocked out in the second round of competition. The two doubles pairs still enjoyed the great opportunity to test the 2012 Olympic venue at Wembley Arena.

Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran's World Championships campaign is over after going down in 3 games at Wembley Arena today. The girls went down to Russian 10th seeds Vislova/Sorokina 22-20, 11-21, 5-21.

The Aussie girls jumped out of the blocks to grab an early lead before the Russians managed to claw their way back to have a slender lead towards the end of the first game. After saving two set points it was Choo and Veeran that grabbed the opener 22-20

The loss of the first set seemed to shock the Russians into form as they came out firing and dominated the second game to level the match up at one game apiece with a 21-11 win.

In the third game Vislova/Sorokina further asserted their dominance and showed why they are the top ranked European pair in the world, destroying Choo and Veeran 21-5 to take the match

Aussies men's doubles pair Ross Smith and Glenn Warfe were also knocked out in the second round of competition by Endo / Hayakawa of Japan.

The Australians trailed from start to finish as the Japanese pair showed why they are ranked number 14 in the world. Taking the match 21-9 21-11.
