The Australian Open Women’s team, Aussie Spirit, won the final game of the Sydney series of the China Australia Challenge at Blacktown Olympic Park on Saturday night.
Twenty-two-year-old Jocelyn McCallum (Qld), pitched the win for Australia, facing 24 Chinese batters with five strike-outs.
The youngsters gave up only four hits and one run for the game to help Australia win 2-1. In the top of the fourth innings, Kerry Wyborn (NSW) helped Australia get their first run on the board, hitting a single to left field, scoring her team mate Sandra Allen (Qld).
Tracey Mosley (Qld) was hit by a pitched delivered by China’s Lan Wang and was awarded base.
Mosley scored Australia’s second run after Danielle Stewart (Qld) scored a double to left field.
Guo Jia scored China’s first, and only run, for the game in style with a home run over the head of centre field player Belinda Wright.
Australia had six hits and made no errors in the field to help them secure the win.
The six game, two part series, saw Australia and China win three games each in some action packed softball, winning one series each.
