With a fifth World Cup aerial skiing title in her keeping, Jacqui Cooper will be playing it safe as she competes in the heart of Moscow tomorrow night.

The eighth event of the season is being held under lights on a massive temporary jump site, constructed out of kilometres of scaffolding in the grounds of the University of Moscow.

A snowboard event held at the same venue two years ago attracted some 25,000 spectators.

Cooper has not yet committed to performing her most difficult jumps, given the unusual nature of the jump site, but will make a decision after tonight’s training session.

With the title in the veteran’s hands, Australia’s eyes are on team-mate Lydia Lassila as she attempts to climb back to second place on the World Cup points table.

With two events to go, the 26-year-old Australian trails Chinese skier Nina Li by 51 points, but Li has opted to bypass the Russian event.

With 100 points awarded for first place, 80 for second and 60 for third, a podium result to Lassila would put the Flying Kangaroos on track for a one-two result on the final World Cup standings.

Dale Begg-Smith will also be in action over the weekend, competing in a dual moguls event in the Czech Republic resort of Spicak-Marienbad.

Begg-Smith leads the World Cup standings on 410 points, 86 clear of French skier Guilbaut Colas, with four of the season’s ten events to go.
