TEAM: The 2014 Australian Olympic Team uniforms have officially been unveiled in Sochi.
Amid a sea of green and gold competition and training gear made by Karbon; XTM gloves, socks, thermal layers and bags; Blundstone and adidas footwear; and formal wear by Sportscraft, one jacket stood above the rest.
It is white, emblazoned with the Southern Cross, and it is the jacket the 2014 Australian Olympic Team will wear at the Opening Ceremony in Sochi on Friday (local time).
You won’t be able to miss the Australians in their yellow Karbon beanies as they march in the parade of nations during the Opening Ceremony.
Australian athletes will wear forest green jeans and a belt designed by Sportscraft with adidas mountain boots.
“The Opening Ceremony uniform has a very youthful look to reflect the Team,” Australian Chef de Mission Chesterman explained.
“It has an urban mountain resort feel that perfectly matches the combination of city and mountain locations in Sochi.”
Short track speed skater Deanna Lockett modelled her Karbon race suit in Sochi today.
“I really love the racing suit,” Lockett said.
“It’s really special to be wearing the Olympic suit – not everyone gets that, so I’m going to keep it safe for the rest of my life. I’ll probably frame it.”
When the Australian Team Flagbearer is named at an official reception on February 6, the Team will wear the formal uniform provided by Sportscraft: tan pants, a white shirt, grey knit jumper, blue silk scarf or tie, classic Blundstone boots and the piece de resistance- a bottle green blazer lined with the names of the 198 Australian winter Olympians.
The formal uniform reflects Australia’s unique sporting heritage, influenced by the green and gold palette. Modern tailoring and subtle preppy influences have been introduced to deliver a contemporary look, while fabrications and accessories have been updated to reflect the cold climate of the host city Sochi. The colour palette of warm yellow and bottle green has been offset with subtle navy, grey and crisp white details, giving the garments a uniquely Australian feel.
Athletes received suitcases full of green and gold Karbon competition wear and training gear. With everything from beanies and ski pants to tracksuit pants and a jacket for any type of weather, the Australian Olympic Team is equipped for the big show in Sochi.
“It was amazing! We got to our rooms and there were four bags full of all different stuff. The first bag I opened was a big suitcase and there was jacket after jacket after jacket and T-shirt after T-shirt,” Olympic debutant Taylah O’Neill said.
“I’m excited to wear them all around the Village and at competition and training,” she said.
The green ski jacket which the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard athletes will compete in has been one of the most popular items.
“It’s nice and long and it’s a really good cut so I’m pretty excited about it,” Ski Slopestyle’s Anna Segal said.
“I’m also loving the Southern Cross on the pocket there as well.”
XTM supplied the 60-strong Team with an array of competition-grade gloves, socks, thermal layers and bags.
