Australian sweep in slalom World Cup

Australia's women canoe slalom paddlers scored a sensational trifecta at the second World Cup of the year in L'Argentiere, France on Saturday.

Australia's women canoe slalom paddlers scored a sensational trifecta at the second World Cup of the year in L'Argentiere, France on Saturday.

Sydney's Jessica Fox won the Women's C1 category, followed home by teammates Rosalyn Lawrence and Leanne Guinea.

Lawrence took gold last week in the first World Cup in Tacen, Slovenia, but was edged by 2.86 seconds by Fox, despite the 17-year-old picking up a two second penalty for touching a gate.

"I managed that race well," Fox said afterwards.

"I made a little mistake down the bottom, and got a little bit scared at gate 18 because I almost missed a wave but managed to get back in."

It is the first sweep for Australia in the event but it won't be part of the program at the London Olympic Games, only the Women's K1.

Fox has the perfect pedigree for the sport: her father Richard won six World Championship gold medals for Great Britain and mother Myriam also won six World gold and an Olympic bronze medal for France. Jessica won gold at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010.
