WINTER SPORTS: Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA) has announced the Australian Team for the 2019 FIS World Championships for Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski, that kicks off in Utah from 1-10 February 2019.
On the back of a successful 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, the team boasts a strong mix of experience combined with fresh faces who are fast making a name for themselves on the international circuit.
Among the team are the three medalists from PyeongChang including Matt Graham (moguls silver medalist), Jarryd Hughes (snowboard cross silver medalist) and Scotty James (snowboard halfpipe bronze medalist).

James will be aiming for his third consecutive World Championship title and three-time Olympic mogul skier Britt Cox is also looking to defend her 2017 World title.
Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin will be aiming to set a record for the most World Championship medals achieved by any Australian winter sport athlete if he can take out a fourth in the snowboard cross after claiming gold in 2011 and 2013, and bronze in 2017.
Jacqui Cooper, Dale Begg-Smith, Holly Crawford and Pullin all hold three medals to their name as Australia’s best performed World Championship athletes over the years.
After finishing fourth at PyeongChang and off the back of her first World Cup victory in Lake Placid this month, Jakara Anthony (mogul skiing) is on the up and up and will be looking to continue her good form into the World Championships.
Olympic Winter Institute of Australia CEO, Geoff Lipshut, said the Australian team will have their sights set on a strong showing at the 2019 World Championships as the team rebuilds at the start of the new Olympic cycle.
“Australia’s skiers and snowboarders have a strong reputation for being able to deliver on the international stage and we’re confident the team will continue to build on those results at the World Championships,” Lipshut said.
“There have been some really strong performances across the board already this international season.
“Scotty James is coming into the event in great form after winning his fourth straight event in at the X Games in Aspen on the weekend.
“There is a fair bit of depth in the team and we are excited to see what they can deliver at the 2019 FIS World Championships,” he said.
