Australians look to make a statement in Kazan
Several Australian divers will look to make a statement at the World Series event in Kazan, Russia.

DIVING: The Australian diving team for this year’s Rio Olympics won’t be finalised until the national selection trials at the end of next month, but several divers will be looking to make a statement at a World Series event in Kazan, Russia, this weekend.

Team veteran, Melissa Wu, has emerged as a genuine medal contender in Rio, after winning bronze in the women’s platform at this year’s World Cup event, and then following up with several similar results against world class opposition.

23-year-old Wu will once again come up against an Olympic-strength field in Russia, including the ultra-consistent Chinese pair of Qian Ren and Yajie Si.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Esther Qin, and World Cup finalist, Maddison Keeney, will compete in the women’s 3-metre springboard.

Another Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Domonic Bedggood, will compete in the men’s platform in Kazan.

Bedggood teamed with Matthew Mitcham to win gold in the platform synchro event in Glasgow.
