Canadian born Dale Begg-Smith, currently training under the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia freestyle program, has taken out the 2003 Tooheys Extra Dry ABOM Mogul Challenge. Nick Fisher from the NSWIS moguls program placed second, with the Institute’s Michael Robertson in third.
In the Open Women’s event, Allie Blackwell of Mt Hotham stole the event from one of Mt Buller’s rising stars Natalie Sirianni. Jane Sexton from the OWI placed third ahead of Team Buller's Nicole Lewis in fourth.
Billed as the hottest mogul event on the Australian skiing calendar, the Tooheys Extra Dry ABOM Mogul Challenge is in its 15th year, with prize money for the open events totalling $8500.
Despite snowy conditions, spectators enjoyed the explosive action, with the duals format delivering lots of thrills and spills on Mt. Buller’s famous Wood Run.
