Despite two commonwealth gold medals and one world championship gold medal in 2006, Basketball Australia is not resting on its laurels with the announcement of a comprehensive review of its high performance program, the biggest in well over a decade.
The review will examine the whole of Basketball Australia’s high performance pathways, from the national Intensive Training Centre Program (ITCP), to the AIS, to state institutes, national teams and competitions.
The aim of the review is to develop recommendations for optimal use of resources and maximizing opportunities for players and coaches in Australian basketball in order to achieve international success into the future.
The review committee will be chaired by ASC CEO Mark Peters and includes Basketball Australia Chief Executive Scott Derwin as well as a senior representative from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
Extensive input from players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders will be actively encouraged in advance of a High Performance Workshop in February 2007.
“We are pleased about our recent achievements, but we must ensure the strengths of the present meet the needs of the future,” Basketball Australia Chief Executive Scott Derwin said.
“We want to identify any gaps in the system and assess the best way to address the key issues, while being open to external input.”
A published report will follow the High Performance Workshop.
