SASI basketball scholarship holder Jessica McPhail will represent Australia at the Fifth International Pierre de Coubertin Youth Forum in Radstadt, Austria this month.
McPhail, a Year 11 student at Immanuel College, will be SA’s representative with winners from five other States.
The award is a major program of the Australian Olympic Committee Schools Education Strategy, which provides youth with an opportunity to share in the true spirit of Olympism. One hundred students from across the world will attend the forum, which has a theme of Making Olympic Principles Work in the Life of Youth.
McPhail impressed judges with her sporting talents, her commitment to sportsmanship, fair play, and community spirit. She was presented with her award by Olympians Mal Heard (Basketball 1960) and John Heard (Basketball 1960 and 1964) at the Immanuel College Chapel.
The Principal of Immanuel College, Mr Kevin Richardson, praised her sportsmanship saying that she “continually supports her fellow team members on and off the court. Jessica is consistently present at all matches and trainings even if she is injured. Even at such a young age she shows a commendable approach to her sports and when dealing with peers.”
