Berger claims historic gold for Norway

Norwegian biathlete Tora Berger was unstoppable on her way to winning the women’s 15km individual competition at Whistler Olympic Park.

In an amazing race, Berger only missed one target and easily out-skied the field to win by 20.7 seconds.

The 28-year-old blitzed a strong field including pre-race favourite Magdalena Neuner of Germany and world number one Helena Jonsson of Sweden.

“It’s so good. Really, I don’t know what to say. It’s really, really good. It’s probably the biggest dream I’ve dreamed about” Berger said.

“But the last shooting really hurt because I missed."

Berger’s gold was Norway’s 100th gold medal in Winter Olympics history.

Kazakhstan's Elena Khrustaleva won the silver and Belarus' Darya Domracheva took home the bronze.

Norway have won more golds than every other country in Winter Olympic competition with their closest rivals, the United States on 83 all-time gold medals.
