Australia’s two female athletes vying for a spot at the 2018 PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics have lined up at the second IBU Cup of the season over the weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

BIATHLON: Australia’s two female athletes vying for a spot at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics have lined up at the second IBU Cup of the season over the weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympian Darcie Morton lined up alongside fellow Aussie Jeremy Flanagan in the Single Mixed Relay where the duo claimed 25th in the field of 27.

The pair managed to complete several shoots before eventually being one of the 11 teams that were lapped by the leader forcing their race to be over.

Morton and Jill Colebourn then competed in the women’s 7.5km Sprint event. Morton only recorded one missed shot on her way to 80th, 5 minutes and 20 seconds behind the winner, with Colebourn claiming 98th with 5 misses and a time just under nine and a half minutes off the pace.

The results were not enough for either to record the necessary time to secure Olympic qualification.

The duo will next compete in the IBU Cup 3 event in Obertillach, Austria. The individual event will kick off proceedings for Morton and Colebourn on Thursday before Saturday’s Sprint event.
