Cameron Morton has again led team-mate Mark Raymond in biathlon World Cup competition in Europe, as the pair vie for the one place available for an Australian in the Torino 2006 field.

Morton finished in 89th place in the 10km sprint event in Brezno-Orsblie, Slovakia, down on the 78th place he recorded in his opening event of the season, but ahead of his fellow Victorian's 109th place.

The former Olympic coach produced a time of 30 minutes 41.2 seconds, 3:48.5 behind the time of gold medallist Alexander Wolf of Germany, who led a podium sweep for his country.

Morton had three shooting faults for the event, all in the standing position.

A day earlier, he had finished in 91st place in the individual 20km event, this time with five shooting misses, again all standing.

Raymond finished in 106th place in the distance event.
