BASKETBALL: The Australian Boomers are ready to take on their biggest challenge to date when they face the United States in the Olympic semi-finals.

Having never beaten the USA in an Olympic tournament, the Boomers will be looking to make the ultimate statement and continue their recent form, having beaten the Americans in their recent warm up match in Las Vegas.

Unbeaten at Tokyo 2020 so far and coming off a 38-point smashing of Argentina in the quarter finals, the Boomers will be throwing everything they have at the USA.

The USA have a stellar record at the Games, having won 15 gold medals out of a possible 18 since 1936, and have never missed out on a podium finish.

However, the USA will be missing a few of their big-name NBA stars due being able to join the campaign as a result to pandemic delays. Regardless, it won’t be an easy task for the Boomers, the USA headlined by Kevin Durant who can be unstoppable even in a double team due to his 205cm stature and incredible game presence.

Despite what could be described as a daunting semi-final challenge, recent experience against the USA and a strong playing group may prove to be the x-factor the Boomers need to advance to a gold medal game.

Watch the Boomers take on the USA on Thursday 5 August from 2:15pm AEST LIVE on 7 Olympics or 7plus.
