BOXING: The next generation of Australian boxing talent is at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria to qualify for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in August this year.

BOXING: The next generation of Australian boxing talent is at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria to qualify for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in August this year.

West Australian Caitlin Parker and Satali Tevi-Fuimaono from the Central Coast in NSW look set to compete at the second summer Youth Olympic Games after outstanding results at the Youth Championships.

One week after turning 18, Parker is preparing for the fight of her life as she competes in the final of the 75kg division today.

After beating Martha Fabela from the USA, the promising teenager comes up against Elzbieta Wojcik of Poland as she strives to win her first gold medal at a Junior World Championship level.

Parker, who has advanced from the club and state level to national representation, competed at the inaugural World Junior Championships in 2011 in Antalya, Turkey, winning a bronze medal. She recently won a gold medal at the 2014 Brandenburg Youth International Boxing Tournament.

Satali Tevi-Fuimaono, who is just 16-years-old, is the under-17 world champion and two-time national title holder. Tevi-Fuimaono defeated Kalle Kallionen of Finland in a box-off from the losers of the Quarter Finals to secure one of two remaining positions for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

The aspiring athlete’s goal is to become the first Australian to win a gold medal in Boxing at the Olympic Games. The Youth Olympics will provide a vital stepping stone in assisting to reach this goal.

All 28 Olympic sports are being contested at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Boxing takes place the last week of the Games from 23 – 27 August 2014. Australia anticipates sending a Team of 91 athletes including one male and one female in Boxing.
