Jono Brauer has finished in 49th place in the opening downhill World Cup of the season.
Brauer was 2.53 behind the time of gold medalist Peter Fill from Italy, as the 2008/09 World Cup speed events began in Lake Louise, Canada.
The Italian collected the first victory of his career in a time of 1 minute 47.40 seconds, 0.08 seconds ahead of Swiss skier Carlo Janka.
Hans Olsson of Sweden was third.
Brauer opted not to start in the Lake Louise super G on Sunday, while OWI team-mate Craig Branch missed both events through a persistent back complaint.
Austrian legend Hermann Maier - who will be 36 next Sunday - showed he could still mix it with the best in super G, winning his first event since January 2006.
