CANOE/KAYAK: NSWIS star Jo Brigden-Jones and her K2 partner Naomi Flood dominated the senior women's races at the Canoe/Kayak NSW Sprint Championships.

The pair won five gold medals between them. They combined to win the K2 500 and K2 200 titles, while Brigden-Jones triumphed in the K1 200 and K1 500, and Flood won the K1 1000.

26-year-old Brigden-Jones was happy with her first hit out of the year.

“It was good to start racing in 2015, there were not many female participants but it was good racing with Floody in K1 and K2 and to see where I am at,” she said.

After an injury plagued past few years, Brigden-Jones feels like she is tracking well ahead of selection.

“It is the first pre-season I have had in a while because last year I was rehabbing so it will be interesting to see how I go with a full off-season behind me so I am excited for the next few months.”

With just 563 days until the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, Brigden-Jones admits to firmly having Rio in her sights.

“I think you have to put the plans in place now to pull it off in Rio. With it now being 2015 you have to really knuckle down and make some clear plans because that is how you get the best results”, she said.

A clear goal for Brigden-Jones is to focus on the K2 500 with Flood.

“That is our priority boat for us at the moment and then we will still race everything at Nationals and selection. We will see what the program is like at World Championships and we might be able to do some K1 events or even some other events as well.”

The battle for senior selection will begin at Grand Prix 2 from 20 to 22 February.
