Torah Bright has finished in second place in the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, going down to Torino 2006 silver medallist Gretchen Bleiler of the USA in a star-studded field of the world’s best halfpipe riders.
Bright continued to show she is one of the world’s pre-eminent halfpipe riders, out-performing Salt Lake 2002 Olympic champion Kelly Clark and 2006 Torino gold medallist Hannah Teter, both also from the USA.
Bleiler scored 93.33 for her best run, 0.77 ahead of Bright on 92.66 points. Clark earned 90.00, while Teter had a best effort of 77.33 to the 2007 World Championship runner-up Soko Yamaoka was fifth on 74.33 points.
In snowboard cross, Alex Pullin placed 22nd, while Damon Hayler was one spot further back in 23rd position. Nate Holland of the USA won the event.
In ski cross, Jenny Owens qualified in ninth position, securing a place in the 12-woman semi-final rounds.
Owens finished in third place in her semi-final, advancing to the six woman final. But in the final she unfortunately fell in the top section of the course after bumping into another competitor, finishing the event ranked sixth overall.
