A very successful ONOC General Assembly was held at the Stamford Plaza in Brisbane from 31st March to 3rd April.

Delegates from the 15 National Olympic Committees in Oceania were in attendance in the presence of IOC President Dr Jacques Rogge and they were joined by delegates from the five bidding cities for the 2012 Games ie. London, New York, Paris, Moscow and Madrid.

On Thursday evening 31st March, the Premier of Queensland – the Hon Peter Beattie hosted a welcome Cocktail Party on the Speakers Green at Parliament House where delegates were joined by a number of Queensland Olympic supporters and sponsors.

A special moment during the evening was the presentation of the QOC’s 2004 merit awards by President Jacques Rogge to Olympian Julie McDonald and Local Government Assocation of Queensland CEO Greg Hallam for their outstanding support of the Olympic Movement in Queensland.

Two highly successful dinners were held on the Friday and Saturday nights at Pier Nine and Il Centro Restaurants and respectively hosted by AOC President John Coates and ONOC President Kevan Gosper.

The QOC was proud to be associated with the organisation of the event, and in particular to work closely with Pamela Harris and Anne King. We also welcomed the opportunity to provide ‘special chauffeurs’ to drive the loan Nissan motor vehicles to transfer delegates to and from Brisbane Domestic and International Airports and undertake sightseeing tours to Noosa and the Gold Coast.

Our sincere thanks to Stephen Downes Nissan Australia, John Humphreys, Jack Morganti, Ralph Beckingham, Cynthia Stericker, Hardy Cubasch, Jane Guiver, Ray Ebert and Milly Wagstaff for their generous contributions.
