CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: Liam Burton and Lilly Boland missed out on qualifying for the race phase of the sprint classic competition at the Lillehammer 2016 Games.
After finishing 26th in the opening event of her campaign, Boland was 13.65 seconds behind the final position in the top 30 that went on to contest the quarter-finals.
The Ulladulla youngster posted a time of 4:04.21 to sit 36th and end up 39.83 behind top qualifier Johanna Hagstroem of Sweden who went on to win the gold medal.
Liam Burton was 34.13 seconds off top qualifier Lauri Mannila of Finland in 41st, missing the quarter-finals by 16.2 seconds with a time of 3:30.25.
Thomas Larsen of Norway went on to win the event.
The duo will compete in their final event, the men’s 10km free and women’s 5km free, on Thursday.
