SWIMMING: Timing is everything in swimming and it seems as though Bronte Campbell has done her calculations perfectly.

After a disappointing 2012 Olympic Games, Australia's new freestyle queen begins her 2016 Rio campaign on top of the world.

She swam past her sister Cate, previously the one to catch, and everyone else in the field in the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, claiming gold in both the 50m and 100m events.

But as he prepares for the Perth Aquatic Super Series at HBF Stadium this weekend, she says she feels as though she is starting again.

"Last year was great. It was better than I could have really imagined," she said on Thursday.

"But it was last year and 2016 is a new year and I have to put it all behind me and forget about it.

"It's no longer important. This is going to be the first meet for me and the first meet to see how I'm going in 2016, which is an Olympic year.

"It's the big one so I'm kind of nervous to see how I go but excited."

Bronte, 21, says she is over the hip issues that caused her concerns late last year, although this weekend provides the first real chance for her to test things.

And test it she will. As well as having her sister to contend with, plus the best that the Japanese and Chinese swim teams have, she also has the elements.

The Super Series is being raced in a 10-lane outdoor pool at HBF Stadium and the weather forecasts are extreme.

"I love swimming in the heat. Heat it up as much as possible, I say.

"We arrived on Tuesday and it was kind of cold and we weren't really looking forward to racing in the cold.

"Now we hear it is going to be 38C on Saturday and 40C on Sunday, so I'm looking forward to that."
