Australia’s Flying Kangaroos will compete in China for the first time this weekend when that country’s inaugural World Cup aerials skiing competition is held in Long-Zhu.

The fledgling ski resort, located near the city of Harbin in the northern province of Heilongjiang, will host two events on Saturday and Sunday.

If Alisa Camplin wins either of those events, she will all but wrap up the World Cup title, with only team-mate Lydia Ierodiaconou able to pass her on the points table.

The Australian team will face a tough challenge from the home team, one of the strongest in the world.

The Chinese have missed the last two World Cups in order to train on the Long-Zhu competition site, and as host country, will have eight competitors in the field.

But Camplin will go into the event full of confidence after three wins in a row, and a much needed break, while Ierodiaconou will also have benefited from the opportunity to rest her injured shoulder.

With Liz Gardner number three in the world, and Lainie Cole fresh from her first Nor-Am victory, the Australians look well prepared to continue their excellent all round performances.

Youngest team member 19-year-old Trudy McIntosh, is looking forward to the competitions in China after qualifying for her first World Cup final and achieving a career best result of tenth place in Deer Valley, USA, two weeks ago.

Two events in Europe follow the Chinese round of the World Cup, one in the Czech Republic and the other at the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games site of Sestrieres.

The Long-Zhu women’s final is scheduled to end at 5:30pm AEST on both Saturday and Sunday.
