Craig Branch has produced the best downhill result of his career, finishing 38th in Chamonix, France. Branch recorded a time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds to finish 3.28 seconds outside the winning time of Johann Grugger.
The New South Wales skier’s previous downhill best was a 40th place, in Kvitfjell at the end of last season. He also has a best super G placing of 36th.
Grugger’s win was his second in a row. Italian veteran Kristian Ghedina took the silver medal, .11 seconds adrift, with Austrian Michael Walchhofer in third.
Walchhofer now leads the downhill standings on 331 points from overall World Cup leader Bode Miller of the US on 318. Miller finished in ninth place in the Chamonix event.
OWI skier Jono Brauer will contest the slalom on the evening of Sunday January 9 AEST.
