On Friday 11th June, one of our most supportive sponsors, Carlton & United Breweries hosted their prestigious annual Carlton Sportsman’s Luncheon in conjunction with the QOC. This year’s luncheon featured a 1500m theme, and brought together in the one forum, five of Australia’s 1500 metre legends from both the pool and the track.
The great Olympic 1500m gold medallists included Bob Windle who travelled all the way from China to attend this event, Murray Rose, John Konrads, Kieren Perkins and the great Herb Elliott. Although the current 1500m star Grant Hackett could not attend, he sent a video message expressing his sincere apologies and informing guests of his preparation for Athens.
The lunch was a fantastic event with over 1200 people attending at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. The QOC offered a very unique list of auction items and again were able to raffle a Nissan Patrol kindly donated by Nissan and Channel 7.
The guests were treated to an array of entertainment including a panel interview conducted by David Fordham of the four great 1500m swimmers. There was also a fantastic line up of Olympians who attended and were acknowledged at this event in support of the QOC and the Olympic Team Fund.
